Goulash is a stew/soup that comes from Hungary. This soup consists of meat, noodles and vegetables, especially potatoes. and flavored with peppers, tomatoes, and other spices. Goulash is also famous in Vienna, Czech Republik, Poland, Lituania, Italia, and many more. It is one of Hungary’s national dishes and a symbol of the country. The name originates from the Hungarian “gulyás”. The word gulya means ‘herd of cattle’ in Hungarian, and “gulyás” means ‘herdsman’. But, over time the dish became gulyáshús (goulash meat) – that is to say, a meat dish which was prepared by herdsmen. Today, gulyás refers both to the herdsmen, and to the soup.
